Hi All -- I got my first Dendrobium that was partially in bloom last weekend and noticed throughout the week that the flower petals have very light brown spots --- Any thoughts? Fungus? Water?
If you didn't have them when you bought it, and all thru the week they have spread...it might be mites...look also under the leaves if you have tiny spots...if you use a magnifying lens maybe you will witness it crawling...
Use a mix:
2cups tepid water
10drops dish soap
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract
Spray the whole plant and soak the pot for 5 min to kill the eggs
Don't let it near the other plants...put it in another room for a week
Thanks for the reply , Bud. I did look at the petals closely and do not see anything -- I also tried to scrape the area, but it is part of the petal itself. I wonder if it could be water spot? Maybe not enough air circulation?
That's a very pretty flower and it looks like water spots to me. If you misted the plant, water could have gotten on the flowers. If you are going to mist make sure you have good air circulation.

Thanks Joann -- Indeed, it is a pretty flower. I believe you may be correct -- I do not mist my flowers, but we had a VERY wet week here with weather -- maybe I should have left my fan on more? I Removed the flowers that had the spots -- I still have a whole stem with buds , so i am hoping to enjoy non-spotted ones from that in a week of so :big grin:
