Hi !! I need Help!!! I went to re-pot my Phals...and the roots all seemed healthy ABOVE the bark mixture....a healtyhy silver which turn green when misted......WELL...UNDERNEATH the bark...its as if the roots saw a ghost!! They are WHITE!!! I have no idea what to think or do....Any suggestions would be sooo appreciated!!! Thankyou!!!
oh...I meant to tell you: white or greyish white under the media is good...if it is rounded and fat as pencils with silvery tips...its fine! its when it grows flat that its a problem...
also flush your pot with water for 5 min or let the water run on the pot twice a month to get rid of fertilizer crystals depositing on the roots...
hi & Thank You ! I read those pages concerning the phals...and I think I should have posted there....but I read that whole page and all of the threads...but didnt see anything relating to WHITE roots...I will follow your advice about flushing the pots...but they just dont look healthy at all...even though they arent flat. They look like once-healthy roots...that all of the green has faded out of...Thanks!
Yay!!!!!!!! For once a healthy Phal with no issues. Don't see much of that on the beginners thread. Keep up the good work and Welcome to the Orchid Board.
Roots inside the pot are white because they are not getting any light down in the medium. It seems strange, but doesn't affect the plant at all. As long as these roots are firm, they are healthy and no cause for concern. Hope this puts your mind at ease somewhat.
