I would agree with Camille that an even smaller pot would help. If you can't find one small enough then use an old food container that is smaller and cut holes in it to allow air flow. I use tiny yoghurt pots and things like that.

The medium does look too soil like for a Phal to me. It can be too heavy and not allow enough air flow around the roots (once they form).

I have to agree with earlier posts concerning the mix.

I know I mentioned miracle gro and the funny thing is at my home depot , it actually costs more than the
Better-Gro stuff, but I also recall that I had mentioned the miracle gro brand was full of soil.
(Better for terrestrial orchids and those that don't like the air around their roots)
Phals are, once again, EPIPHYTES, meaning free moving air is a basic requirement.

I'd love to see further developments on this plant. Good job and keep us posted. Pictures are GREAT!!!

Bring the baby inside. Being outside in this TX heat is waaay to hot. Get an orchid book, too. Miracle Grow has a nice series.

You may want to invert a plastic bag over the plant to help keep the humidity up. I use those type of clay pots & have had no problems with them. I have the 2 inch pots & have not had to use the styrofoam peanuts (they're too big)--as long as the water flows freely through the hole.

Youtube has some nice videos on orchids.

I would also get a new orchid--repot after it flowers. Orchids like to have "friends".

See the above thread about phal abuse--it has much to offer as far as teaching. The AOS has some nice phaleonopsis care sheets.

Lots of luck & welcome.

get some sphagnum moss soak it in a very weak super thrive/kln and physan 20 solution and wrap it around the base of the keiki and pot it in something 'tiny'...it could be anything. And mist it lightly in the morning. AND POST PICS DAILY!!!
