wrinkled psuedobulbs?
My psuedobulbs are wrinkling! Do they ever look normal again or is is it just part of orchid growing. I suppose I should be asking what caused them to wrinkle in the first place.
Thanks
Danny

underwatering. you need to go to the culture of your plant and find out a regimen that will work for both of you. when to water...when to fertilize...what light and temperature to give it
You are in CA...it is an ideal place to grow orchids...you ahve a natural humid atmosphere and orchids can thrive even if you leave them outdoors for a long time without watering...
I also noticed there was a couple of days past that you had a heat wave...
heat with dry air can suck the moisture from your plants...pbulbs are a reservoir of water ...your plants must have been stressed

Danny...orchids are tenacious, its so hard to kill them unless they catch some virus or bacteria...bugs can be easily taken cared of...your pbulbs will grow plump again once the rains come; California rains really pours LOL make sure you dont get root rot

If back bulbs are wrinkling It's not really a problem. The most important indicator of dehydration is the condition of the lead psuedobulb (most recent psuedobulb). If the lead psuedobulbs are plump the plant is hydrating properly.

I've got 2 plants that shrivel and plump really quickly. They'll shrivel in a day and plump in an hour. As long as the roots keep looking healthy I just berate myself a bit and try to keep on top of watering.

Shriveled BBs are caused by a lack of water to the bulb. This can happen, as Bud said, from lack of water to the plant. But it can also occur if the roots are rotted because of over watering and incapable of transporting water to the bulb. In your case in Galt, where it is hot and with low humidity, I suspect it is the lack of water.

Bulbs wrinkle from either underwatering or overwatering. My Brassia rex bulbs had been wrinkled to a point where they were almost flat. Good thing I noticed the issue (I know, I shouldn't noticed it earlier but it was "hidden" among my other plants" and I began watering more often. Now they're nice and plump.
However, be sure not to overwater, because if the roots are dead, the plant has no way to replenish the water stored in its pbulbs. That would be a more serious issue than underwatering.

In reading all the posts about wrinkled psuedobulbs, I've got to ask the question, are mine (see pics) this way due to lack of water too? And in addition to that question, why can't one just submerge the pots (I have mine in ceramic pots with lots of openings) in a bucket of water, rather than pour water from a can over them? What if they were submerged for 20 seconds or so?
