It sounds like crown rot to me. And if it has gone down into the crown, there isn't much you can do but try to clean it out,getting rid of all the necrotic material. Then irrigate with peroxide and/or SA-20/Physan-20 and sprinkle with cinnamon. If you get lucky, and the plant survives, you may get a basal keiki. If not so lucky might as well pitch it because once the primordial tissue is dead, nothing will grow from the crown. Black as you mention is probably not Erwinia. Erwinia looks like the pictures I posted in my thread,
