I will be going to the Calgary show, and keep my eyes and ears open. They do have a wide selection of plants, and when dealing one on one with them, they are very pleasant. Could it be that our expectations and their cultural practices are at odds? Does anyone know if not preparing pre- orders is common practice in Taiwan?

I pre-ordered from Ching Hua (from Taiwan) for the Edmonton show last Feb. and their plants were already pre-packaged and ready to go for my order. He also seemed to have given me a cheaper price than buying straight off their table.

I preordered with Ten Shin at the Burlington orchid show last fall. They had the plants ready to go, but I was allowed to inspect them and change with other plants of the same species on the table if I wasn't totally happy. The plants were healthy, and generally better than what was on the table. I paid after I inspected the plants. I got a regular ambo, an ambo flava, and a stuartiana var nobilis. All have since done well.

No, Matt (owner) has gone to university in the states and I think is very familiar with our culture etc. I'm sure all will work out ok. I've seen several orders come and go at Toronto area shows seemingly with no problems. I have bought off his table at times and am very happy to date with my purchases.

Our society just put in quite a large pre-order with Ten Shin for the Edmonton show later this month. I'll advise what we think of the plants. The owner told us he is immigrating to Canada!

I have actually ended up pre-ordering a few plants from Ten Shin last October and was ver happy with plants conditions and size. I was picking them up at the show.
They unwrapped each plant to show me and make sure I like it and then carefully wrapped them again.
I hope he will continue his business here in Canada!

Matthew is a all around great guy! He is hard working and travels a long way to these shows with his plants. He also carries a wide range of cymbidiums, which are well rooted and healthy, though he carries many diff species from around the world. Most of his plants are kept affordable, to allow everyone to experiment and try out new things. I definitely recommend Ten Shin Gardens. I have numerous of his plants, and they bloom and grow well.

I agree, Ten Shin is a great place to order from. He has a large selection of Paphs. and other orchids. I was just at the Edmonton show and bought a bulldog Paph. and a Tolumnia. I paid $10.00 for the NOID Tolumnia in bloom. The Paph. had a nice big bloom and had been temporarily potted in sphagnum once he got to Canada. It was $30.00 which I thought reasonable. I re-potted it a few days ago and there wasn't a single bad root and lots of good ones.

I agree with all of the above. Matt is a nice fellow and has been a good friend of mine.
