They're talking intervention already!
When I split the Oncidium I should cross the 24 mark. My family is already talking about intervention! I keep adopting mutts and strays that people have written off. They come back to life begin to bloom and suddenly those people want them back.

I wouldn't even tell them how well the plants are doing if they are going to do that. It's your hard work and love!

I think I have around 40 orchids right now, some large and some small. I actually prefer smaller orchids (plants and blooms) generally, so I guess that works out well. But my wife really likes the big Vandas and Phals, so I gotta have a few of them for her to enjoy. I got like 10 white NOID Phals for free a while ago. I took them with the thought of repotting them and getting them healthy and give them away once they're in bloom. I can't wait for them to spike so I can be DONE with them. Don't get me wrong, I love the thought of giving away blooming orchids to friends, it's just a LOT of time and effort going into repotting, watering, fertilizing that I could be spending with my family or taking care of orchids I actually personally like. I do love giving gifts though, so I just need to keep thinking about when I will be giving away beautiful blooming plants.

Is it a bad sign when you are out with friends at a local store and you see a rack of orchids and walk towards it, only to hear in very loud voices all of your friends yelling the same thing at the same time?! They literally yelled, "PAUL, step AWAY from the orchids!" I must say it was a bit embarrassing and funny at the same time, lol...

LOL, funny, I get the same comments! And when I tell them "but I was just looking!" they clearly don't believe me. And if I walk past orchids without looking at them in an effort to behave like a normal person, those same friends are wondering if anything is wrong with me!

I only have forty-three/forty-five orchids but I have so many other plants, plants I absolutely love but are space hogs (12-14 inch pots). It would be all fine if I had a greenhouse but...I don't. Orchids are really nice because they can be kept in smaller pots, their medium isn't as heavy so they can be put on shelves and you can fit many more of them into less space. They don't drop a bunch of leaves, they don't spill dirt, they don't grow five feet in width and height (usually). So, I think having a few hundred orchids is fine if one has the space. Now, if one collected hundreds of hibiscus, jasmines and camellias in the home, that would be insane. (Um, I hope I didn't offend anyone with that last sentence.)

Totally not offended here! I have almost 70 tropicals in addition to over 60 orchids I care for. It just proves I'm insane! LOL...

Yes, insane for not using the valuable space for orchids instead!
Kiddin aside, what kind of tropicals do you have?

Thanks all had my laugh for the day I am at 53 myself and had my intervention at 40-ish orchids. But I think that I am at my limit, especially with fall here and spaces to find for the outside ones . I'll just have to replace the ones that sniff sniff don't make it rofll.
