I actually have about another 40 outside that are supposed to belong to my friend, but they have lived here all summer and it doesn't look like they are leaving any time soon. The 175 are all inside though.

No one bothers me about my collecting orchids or plants. I used to ride motorcycles and collected scars and doctor bills. They didn't stop me then, why should a few hundred orchids under lights sucking up a 1000 dollars a month bother anyone?

I'm still trying to figure out who "THEY" are?

It's still amazing! I can only imagine how wonderful it is when there are so many. I bet you're never without a bloom! lol. That's my goal. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but who wouldn't want something as lovely as an orchid bloom year round?!

Depends who's planning the intervention! LOL. For my part I'm safe! I'm living alone so there's no mother or siblings or boyfriend to complain about the orchids. I don't need to sneak them into the house nor make up creative lies when a package arrives for me. I don't need to hear complaints about orchids taking over every available surface. I'm not too sure how many I have, I think it's around 60. Should be more but I lost part of my collection last year. 2 more orchids are on the way as we speak, and I'm going to 2 shows early october.

I thought I was doing quite poorly myself having 225 plants currently (soon to be 250...still waiting on my final orders for the fall)

At our orchid society meeting yesterday, we were talking about the cold snap and protecting our plants. One of our members asked me how many plants I had and I was quite embarassed

Then he said, "O that's not too bad, I have 600 and that was sure a chore to pull them all in the greenhouse yesterday..."

As I see it, I'm quite normal; in fact, I need to buy more plants!

Camille, you're lucky on that one! I don't have nearly enough to be considered a hoarder! I only have 20 and my husband cringes every time I send him a link to one "I have to have!" He just bought me a Phal equestris and I haven't told him about the other two yet! Pleurothallis alata and Habenaria rhodocheila! But yesterday I was talking to him and mentioned how much I love orchids, then asked him if he loved orchids... I have him so well trained he said, "yes". Then when I asked why, he replied "because you love them."

Well I always say if there's a spot for one, buy one!
