Congratulations! That's a really great idea... visiting places like HomeDepot and Lowes garden centers at the time when orchids have most likely lost their flowers. Who knows how many of those get tossed out back! It's like, why not inquire with the staff and see if you can get a freebie, or at least a steep discount. If they charge you only full price for the pot it is in, that'd be a deal too.

All we have locally is a walmart and when I inquired about rehabbing their flowerless phals they told me they are only reduced to half price and then if they don't sell they are gotten rid of. No, in other words.

^ that kind of thing annoys me so much. It's like the electronics recycling depots. They throw out so much good vintage audio gear that can be easily reconditioned. Even rare pieces they won't let you buy from them. They're destined for the scrap heap with no reprieve. It doesn't benefit anyone...

Very nice! I've been on kind of a one person crusade to get my local HD to stop just letting their orchids die and offering them at a clearance price once the flowers are gone. Various people there have told me the plants don't belong to HD, but to various vendors and they pick them up after they are dead and replace them. Crazy! And what a waste. Glad you were there when a vendor was around.
Cheers,
Tony
