:iagree: with Terri. I used to leave the spikes, but the successive blossoms come out smaller. Now I cut the spikes and encourage more leaf growth. I also like to keep real airy open bark mix to avoid rotting roots.

I also meant to say, I'd ditch the moss on top too.

Thanks everyone!
So, I think I'm going to repot... now I have three choices.
1. repot now and cut spikes
2. repot now and leave spikes until they stop flowering, or
3. wait until it stops flowering, then repot and cut spikes.
Once the medium starts to go bad, how long do you have before it can become a problem?

Oh yeah, ditch the moss eh? I thought it was good to keep the humidity up... but is it actually just for "looks" then? I wouldn't mind getting rid of it... actually that might explain why I had a bit of rot on the top roots. I had misting the moss to keep it from drying out, but then I noticed some rot, so I stopped. But now the moss is drying out. So just pitch it eh?

If you've noticed rot on the top roots just under the moss definitely ditch it!

I noticed that the new leaf on the phal is a bit purplish. My phals haven't produced any new leaves yet and I was just wondering if that was what they were supposed to look like.

I guess so
This is my first leaf, but nobody's mentioned that it's bad, so I assume it's good!

The purplish leaf is showing you the lighting is to it's max. It does appear to be happy, the adult leaves do look a bit limp, not bad mind you, but I would go ahead and repot now, cut back all the old bloomless stems and keep the blooming ones after it finishes blooming and the blooms die I would cut them back as well and let the plant rest. I am seeing that the plant is possibly exhausted from the blooming and needs a rest to regroup and produce next blooming season. Other than that a great job growing
