What some of the others had said about Brassavola nodosa is true.
1. It is highly fragrant at night. The fragrance can be smelled from across a porch and even then it is still very distinct and strong!
2. The fragrance is very faint to non-existent during the day.
3. Strength of fragrance does depend on age of the flower (not the plant).
4. They are moth pollinated and thus that is why they are fragrant at night.
5. Moisture does affect fragrance.
I will add this...
6. Each individual flower (not plant), can produce their fragrances at slightly different strengths from one another.
