If I see an orchid I like from the pictures of their bloom; I look for it online and buy it. I have discovered that orchids bought in supermarkets and in Home Depot are NOIDS and I dont know if it is virused or what bugs they have and if they have been neglected in transit or deficient...I would rather buy from growers I can run after. I discovered Ebay can hold payment if you complained within 2 weeks of receiving it damaged or with any complaints.

I'm against paying as much for shipping as the total amount of my order. Just won't do it. So I have been dabbling in ebay vendors lately, concentrating on the ones offering free or very reasonable shipping. So far, I've found some honest folks with quality plants, so no complaints.

Bud - They have stopped internet sales in prep for the big on site sale. It really only benifits us locals unless you want to make a trip to Florida. Or you could give me a budget and tell me what you like and I could shop for you. I love spending other peoples money and feeding their addiction all at the same time.

I do a lot of ebay shopping and always keep my eyes peeled for fellow forum members getting rid of divisions or unwanted plants.

Excuse me, I don't have orchids that I consider "Excess Baggage".

kmccormic, I live in eastern Mass and feel your pain. I buy at shows and from trusted vendors online. The MassOS show is coming up in November and I know the Amherst OS has a show in February. Perhaps you are near some NY orchid societies as well, so you could check out their shows, too.
I do buy online from a few trusted vendors. What kind of orchids are you looking for?

I tend to use Oak Hill Gardens in the Chicago area, in addition to Andy's Orchids in California.

Hi Rangiku-
I'm not looking for anything in particular. I have limited space and have to plot my purchases carefully.
I thought that people may know of growers local to them that they like, or events coming up - thanks for the show info! - or online vendors they've enjoyed working with.
I will definitely have to look into the MassOS show.
