Most vandas dislike cold - even 50° nights can result in them going dormant. When I "summer" mine outdoors, they come in when the lows will drop out of the 60's.

A little trick to help the plants: irrigate with warm water -70°-75° - as it prevents any shock or mesophyll collapse, and the plants seem to respond well to that "warm shower in the morning".

Ray, the two Vanda's I have are coerula and a hybrid with coerula as a parent. The Baker's indicate that seasonal temperatures on average dip into the mid-40's for the coerula's native environment. I'm sure that not all Vanda's appreciate going this low, just like all cymbidiums do not. What is your take on this?

I'm just curious about your perspective. I will say that when the nights dropped into the upper 40's the other day I did notice some slight yellowing on the species leaves towards the end. That told me it was not happy with the dip.

Yep coerulea is supposed to be a cold grower, as vandas go. They're probably alright. AND, I would never argue with a Baker's culture sheet.

LOL... good to know that Ray! Sometimes I have wondered about the accuracy, but it's good to hear people have so much faith in their reports.
