Wow! A phal with a name it is VERY similar to a Phal. Dimension Thanks Val!
|
"VERY similar" does not make it so ! Unless you can trace it back to the vendor and/or the breeder and confirm it, it's a NOID and calling it by a registered name is just hearsay. Give it your own pet name and love it for what it is ! Anyone who has a collection and heart has some NOIDs !!!

Dont worry Merlyn, i did take it with a pinch of salt ive read enough posts in the ID section to know once a noID always a noID... somebody got so fed up with being asked they made the topic a sticky
It was however nice of Val to take time to name a couple of real beauties that are similar to mine so that i could google them and have a look.... in my naivety it didnt occur to me that somewhere there would be a phal thats similar to mine, but have a REAL name sometimes im not the brightest button! LOL

Did you try tracking down the vendor ? That's supposing you have the time ! And if he doesn't know (and you found him) get the breeder from him. Just a possibility ! If it heads over toward Taiwan, they will sometimes refuse to let any info out and/or don't register it and/or supply false info !!!! They're very touchy and VERY government supported !!!
Some of my NOIDs I'm waiting for their first blooms !!! I TOLD YOU anyone with a collection and heart !!!!

My Phal. Dimension came with a tag - actually a small sticker on the pot, with a numerical code and the word "Dimension". I ggogled it and found Phal. Dimension produced by Sion Orchids.
Of course I can't be 100% sure about Kimbubbley's noID, but I do have circumstantial evidence:
1- There really aren't more than a handfull of Phals with this kind of pattern (as opposed to hundreds when it comes to other patterns and color combinations).
2- It's a logical assumption that a noID bought in Europe (probably in a big box store) comes from an European supplier, and I happen to know that Sion Orchids makes Phal Dimension. I con't imagine IKEA, for instance, buying from a supplier in North America or Taiwan, when Holland is so close.
Technically, this Phal is stil a noID, but for amateurs like us (me and Kimbubbley), who will never have their orchids judged, this could serve as an ID.

Great bloom, it's so pretty! Sounds like a very happy orchid if it's multitasking like that. I have a few like that, it's amazing that they can do so much at once!
Just an idea as to the name, what I do in the case of Noids that have a probable/very close ID is to put that name on the tag, but leave the word Noid in there.
Val, I agree that such names could serve as ID, but when the photos end up on internet and people look up certain plants they'll see the pic and assume it's a true Dimension. That's another reason why I think it's better to keep 'Noid' in the name.

My phal, possibly Dimension, came from a home depot in southeast PA. Bell Nursery is the supplier. Know I just need to find out where they get their orchids (if they'll tell me).

Wjs - congrats on ur spike coming may u enjoy many beautiful spotty blooms, don't forget pics so I can drool over urs when mine is fading
Camille - thanks! The instructions from my mum when she gave it to me were "stick it in a window and soak it for an hour every two weeks".... not very technical but Phalerie loves it and has been a source of amazement to me ever since!
Thanks for all the lovely comments *blushing* I'm glad u enjoyed seeing her as much as I do... When all the blooms are finally out I will see if I can take a pic as beautiful as some of yours that do this beautiful noID the justice she deserves
