Hanging T5 fixtures - Orchid Board

Does anyone know if you can hang a 4 or 5 bulb T5 fixture from one of those hydrofarm jump start stands? I have 3 of them now, that came with one bulb in each, which I use to overwinter my tropicals in my studio. I am hoping to be able to hang a fixture with more than one bulb, as my plants are much more numerous, and larger. I also couldl use them for my orchids...

If you're talking about the snazy little metal ones, I would have to imagine they can take the load. The ones I've seen are pretty sturdy, and I dont think a 6 bulb T5 is going to break it/bend it. You could also just shoot them an email, or even Ray may be able to tell you as he sells some of their supplies.

His website distributes some Hydrofarm supplies, notably their lighting fixtures, so he might have dealt with this question and could tell you more quickly than HF customer service.

Our member with the username 'Ray' is also the same Ray Barklow. We get so used to everyone here knowing who he is that it's easy to forget not everyone does.

I have "daisy chained" 2 and 3 of them together and then used zip ties to tie them under wire shelves over the next shelf down. Seems to work quite well, and I've been doing it for more than 2 years. I even put plain old aluminum foil over them to make a reflector.

I have never actually seen the Hydrofarm Jump-Start stands first-hand, although I've sold a bunch of them.

I suspect they'd handle the extra weight OK, but might be awfully "top-heavy" on their relatively small feet, so I'd find a way to affix the base to the table or stand it's on.
