Default Bark mounted orchid to pot.

Got myself a Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi from ebay, it was mounted on bark. Very nice indeed, but I prefer my orchids in pots. Much easier to maintain. I want to pot it! Is it possible to do, and get pot-looking growth, with a straight stem and leafs that grows "correct"?

Here is a pic of it:

And also, Is there any smart trick out there how to maintain a bark mounted orchid. I have nothing to put it on at this moment. It would me cool to have one mounted. :-) I dont want to spray it everyday, or have the water dripping on the floor.

My small mounted orchids, when they are inside for the winter, I take to the bathroom to water, allow them to 'drip-off' in the shower, before putting them back.

If you pot this one, I suppose with time the new growth will come in as usual for potted Phals. I don't have experience with this tho ...

Hopefully some other members can advise you better
gl!

I only have a few mounted orchids so far, but they are all out in my lanai and having a tile floor there, I don't worry too much about drips. I also usually hang the mounts over other pots of plants, so they drip rignt into the houseplants below them. I don't know how you can get away without at least spraying them daily. (I usually do mine 4-5 x a day, as hot as it is on our lanai). Shouldn't be a problem chaging from mount to pot, just be careful if the 'chid is really clinging to the mount to try and not damage roots. I've read recently that sp Phals tend to do better mounted than in pots, I don't have enough experience to agree or disagree with that. Did you get your mounted Phal from Abita orchids?
Good growing,
Tony

If you do decide to put the roots in a pot, be sure to soak them for a couple of hours in warm water to soften them so they won't snap.

Thanks all for the replies!

I got the orchid from ebay, a seller in Thailand. Abita only shippes to US? I live in the land of Vikings. :-) Infact, this was a replacement orchid, from a "broken" orchid I got. So Im very happy that it was in spike and had two spikes. :-)

I will try to pot it, I think and see whats happens.

I just keep a humidity tray below my mounts to catch the drips and help with humidity.

Sorry, didn't notice you were outside U.S. Anyhow, good luck with it. They're a beautiful Phal and I'm sure it'll do fine once you've potted it up. I'm retired, so I can spend lots of time spraying mounted orchids. So, unless that's the case or you can afford a greenhouse with automatic misting. I think pots are the way to go!
Cheers,
Tony
