Brassidium old medium question

My Brassidium has finished blooming and the medium looks old, nasty and mushy. I think it's peat primarily. I've either got to drive out of town to get some fine bark mix, use medium bark mix that is locally available or order mix over the inet. Can I depot my plant and clear off the old medium then keep it wrapped in a damp towel until I can get some proper medium? I've got a rotten feeling about leaving this plant in its current pot. Lisa

You can unpot it and leave it alone.

If it will be days until the plant is repotted, dunk the root system every morning and it will be fine.

This is another situation in which I tell people to think about the plants in nature. Picture that puppy growing happily on a tree (i.e., no medium), and it doesn't rain for three weeks. Now compare that to your situation.

Unfortunately, yes.

• Up at 5
• Out of the shower and checking email and forums at 5:30
• Off to the "real job" at 6 - it's 50 miles and about an hour
• Hit the road home about 4-4:30
• Arrive about 5:45-6 (later if I ride the bike to work - I like the scenic route home)
• Online again
• Dinner
• Pack orders / answer more emails / check forums

On occasion, I even get an hour or two to unwind with reading or TV...
