Seaweed extract should not be thought of as a fertiliser. It's merely a boost to your plants as it has very little nutritional value. I, too, get a white scum that floats on the surface but this wont cause any damage to the orchids. I add a tablespoon per four litres of water/fertilised water. I have been feeding my plants with seaweed extract almost every week since March and there has been nothing but improvement but that's only working under my regime so yours will be different. Once the water has gone dark with the seaweed extracting it can be ready to use. You can also add it to plain, fertiliser free water too. Remember that it will reek to high heaven in another week. Don't tighten the cap too much or you might end up with a loud bang!
