Paul - with all that you have said about how you grow your Masdevallias, I am at a loss for suggestions. The thing that does stand out though, you say your house stays at a constant 70 degrees with 50-60 percent humidity. I assume that to maintain those temps that you must be using air conditioning, if so I can't see how your humidity could be as high as you suggest. Also the cross that you are concerned about needs a night time temp of between 50-60 degrees. I know you say that you have another plant with similar parentage and that it is doing well, all I can think of is that the troubled plant may just be more sensitive and may require a cooler, damper environment. Sorry that I could not be of more help. Good luck with your endeavor to save it. Let me kow the outcome.

Even though I am a firm member, I really don't want to be part of the masdie killer club. I would rather do the opposite. But, I have sent one to orchid heaven and I am afraid I have 3 more on the way. I am succeeding on some of them though.

Paul Mc - The answer to your question is...
The size of your pot is too large for the plant.
The smallest size the cool pots come in are 3" from what I understand. If that's the size you got for your Masdevallia, and unless the roots on your plant fit the pot size, that's the problem.
Your plant is showing signs of over watering.

Also when addressing problems with Masdevallias, always mention what kind it is.
Not all Masdevallias grow cool.
A sticky for "The Masdevallia abuse ends here." can be done, but it will be probably be much more lengthy than the sticky for "The Phal abuse ends here."

Well, my masdie Maui Gold lost it's last two leaves this morning. I just checked the roots a couple of days ago and they looked good. I have it in a small clay pot with sphag and will continue to care for the roots hoping for a new growth for now.

Paul and I are not to far away from each other . My humidity with a/c runs about the same they are on a grate over a tray of hydroton and not far from the a/c vent mine are infracta and crosses of it they tolerate warmer... tolerate is the key word . When the weather cools down they will go back in the green house .
Masdie killers unite we can grow them..

Is the cocinnea a cooler grower? That might be why then. Also as king said with the pot being too large.

Paul - According to the Baker's Culture sheets, coccinea grows in an area where the daytime temps average between 56-58 degrees and night time temps are 45-47 degrees. Your cross has three cold growers in it's lineage, coccinea, veitchiana and triangularis. Again good luck. Oh, by the way, your cross has been named Masd. O'Brien's Passion
