Thomas, I found some of the information that I remembered reading... First, a lot of information - about everything orchids, not just fertilisers - can be found on First Rays website. Ray is also a member of this forum, so if you had any specific questions about the information, you should be able to get answers here.

Also, while I have not tried this yet ( has anyone here? )
but the results appear quite good, and the reasoning is sound. http://www.boschnet.net/horsemanure/...orsemanure.htm

Given that cow manure is probably more readily available to you than horse manure... I found this information on the relative (composted) values of various manures:
Harvey's Electronic Orchid Notebook

It is a shame that the vanilla market isn't as good as it once was. I knew many people who grew vanilla with ease on their farms - growing up palm trees planted around the boundaries - around Bangalore.

To Angela,
Any juice extracted from natural ingredient using water can be called TEA.Weak tea made by fermenting oil cake or Goat droping in water for few days and diluted by 10 times
makes exellent liquid fertiliser this is refered some time as tea in gardening. You can prepare this by suspending a cloth bag filled by these ingredients in a bucket of water.

Shakkai,
Thank you for introducing these web sites,I have only visited now and hope it will help me.What I mentioned as
fermented natural fertiliser is called as PANCHA KAVYA.
This recipe was found in our ancient manuscript now is widely applied in soil fertility and organic farming.
It is a mixture of 5 ingredients derived from cow and other materials: Cow milk, curd, guee, cow dung, cow urine plus
toddy,tender coconut,cane sugar and banana.
This product gives exellent result and the plants loves this very much.

Lightbulb For more worm tea info

Paphlovian, I get my Worm Tea Concentrate from Our Vital Earth, Our Vital Earth ~ All Natural Worm Castings & Worm Tea . I chose this brand on the recommendation of Jerry Meola on the Orchid Geeks Forum, Orchid Forum Orchid Care - Powered by vBulletin . You can do a search there and find plenty of posts on worm tea. BTW, I don't advocate one forum over another, both of these are great and keeping up with two provides a greater fund of knowledge. Lisa
