Ok, so I had a problem with a housesitter tourturing my poor 'chids. Now I went and bought more...

Since I'm already nursing so many back to health anyway, I went to a local big box store and found three orchids in bags for $3.00 a piece, 2 Cattleyas and an Epy. they are actually looking a lot more hydrated and starting to perk up. Oh, don't forget the one poor mini Phal that was on it's last leg that's starting to look like an orchid again.

Well I know that I ended up with 4 new ones, alas, they are sickly. And I have at Least a dozen that are rehabing ... I'm looking at 5 of them right now. Buuuut.... I went and bought 2 more on ebay...

"Masdevallia Sunset Jaguar"

"Masdevallia rolfeana"

Do those names sound right? The Rolfeana is blooming size, and the other has about a year to go.

AAAND... I joined the Hausermann Orchid a Month Club.

I think I'm addicted now...

Oh! Thank you! I couldn't resist... I don't have any of these yet, and I had to try them out! I've been loving the shape of the blooms for a while now, but I wanted to wait till I was a little better at this whole Orchid thing. I haven't lost one yet! Yay Me!

So, I got them today! And imagine My surprise when I unwrapped them and I found Buds on the "Sunset Jaguar"

Sunset Jaguar

Little Bitty bud!

*swoon*

Rolfeana

Both are just as healthy and happy as can be!

So I have a question... I've been doing some reading and seeing that these can grow under normal flourescent lights... is this true? Because I have a shelf light in my office that I grow an African Violet under, would that be sufficient lighting for one of these little pretties?

Great news on the buds!

I can't help about lighting I'm afraid. I grow mine in the greenhouse and they get a bit too much light out there, so I know they don't needs masses, but not sure how much they do need.

Great little masdies! I used to have a masdie, and that one bloomed fine when I left it with the Phals. Don't think that they need much light.
