Can you grow Brassia's in semi-hygroponic?

I have a new bare root brassia division and I was trying to decide what to do with it. I had my media (bark) and I was looking for a new pot. Then I came to a semi-hygroponic pot I had for some time. It is quite tall with the holes about 2 inches high on the pot. I know if I chose to do this, that means I wold use clay. My question is, is this a viable method or would brassia roots rot. I have never seen brassia's potted this way, but I thought it may work.

I have one in S/H and it's doing well. Mine had lost most roots when I was growing it in bark and when a new growth appeared I stuck it in S/H and it's got masses of roots and 3 new growths now.

I think timing for putting it in there is the key. It needs a new growth and the imminent arrival of new roots so that it can get settled in. Old roots will likely die when it's transferred to S/H so it needs the imminent new ones that come with a new growth to allow it to adjust to the new environment well.

With very few exceptions, ANY plant can be grown in semi-hydroponics. Just keep in mind that it will need to grow new roots that are tailored to the environment (hence the timing advice Rosie gave), and that we expect the old roots to die and rot.
