How to build or find humidity trays for windowsills

I'm really hoping you guys can give me some good thoughts on this.

I live in an old house whose wooden windowsills are being destroyed by the watering of my orchids when they are inside for the winter. This year, I want to protect the wood as much as I can. The issue is that since the house is old, the windowsills have unique measurements and I can't seem to find any rectangular humidity trays that fit (or even get close to) those measurements.

So, what sort of ideas do you guys have to help me protect my windowsills and increase the humidity with some sort of tray? I'm not opposed to building them from scratch, but I just don't know how I would do it or what materials to use.

I have other trays of this brand and love them!
They do a great job of catching the water run off.

I have often thought icecube trays could some how be modified to do the same....but never needed to work it out.
