Trio of new orchids
Default Trio of new orchids now with pics!

Having a joyous time tring to post pics from my Picasa album

Anyhow, I picked an I. aurantiacus and an N. falcata from SBOE. A friend also gave me an Oncidium of some sort that she purchased from the supermarket.
At SBOE, there weren't any falcatas nor Isochilus' available in bloom unless I was going to get one of the really big ones. So now Ihavethese two modest little pots next to this big blooming thing that I have no idea what it is. Trying to get pics up.

unknown Oncidium(?)

N. falcata

I. aurantiacus. Recent division about to bloom.

Anyone have any idea what the hybrid may be? And if I should take any special precautions with the newly divided isochilus?

Your brassia is beautiful and it looks as though you picked up some really nice healthy companions. Joann

the mystery plant looks like Brassia (or Brassia hybrid)

your new plants look great - I have no experience with Isochilus, sorry - I'm sure others will be able to advise

Your unkown Oncidium alliance plant is:

Brassidium Longlen 'Bill Switzer'
(Brassia arcuigera X Oncidium leucochilum)

Not knowing where you live your Isochilus may present a problem, although it like fairly bright light, it doesn't do really well with high temps and needs very high humidity year round. When I grew them, I did so in small clay pots with sphagnum moss mixed with sponge rock. Though they like alot of water and don't ever want to go completely dry, they don't want to be soggy. Given proper care they can bloom at any time on a mature stem but usually in the winter and then again in the late spring.

Hope this helps you some. And if I haven't already in another post, let me say welcome to the Board.

Thanks everyone. Caant wait for theN. falcata to bloom!

Im in in Ojai, CA and was informed that the Isochilus will fo well in the dry climate here. Definitely not humid. More research, more effort, more fun.
