Hi, does anyone know, are phals with reddish green leaves receiving too much light? Thanks.

Yep - probably analogous to a "tan".

Believe it or not, despite the faster build-up of stored energy resulting from higher light exposure, some plants will bloom less under those conditions.

As Ray says a "tan" on a phal is a red tint. Some phals have a tendency to look a bit red whatever the light (one of mine does). Some will take quite high light before they get a red tint, others will turn red in lower light.

Personally if I notice one that was previously quite green getting a red tint then I will move it back form the light a bit.

Thanks for the comments. I'll post a or two. The last leaf and new growth are what I've grown and they definatly look redder to me.

Oh, on the underside. One of my first phals had that. She baked and went to orchid heaven. I had totally forgotten about that incident. I thought my only kill was my very first orchid--also a phal. LOL. I now have about nine happy phals

I have a little Dtps Queen Beer 'Red Sky' that has very red leaves both upper and lower and it doesn't seem to matter what light its kept in. I've never bloomed it yet, but I'll post some pics when/if I do

Yep, I think I'll put this one closer to the ends of my fluorescent tubes where it should get a little less light.

Hmm, I have the opposite problem.

I have a phal that I put outside this summer, hoping to get it to bloom (after I don't know how many years) and the leaves are a light green.
