If ice cubes are placed on the potting medium, specifically spagnum, the water melts slowly and is room temperature when it actually reaches the roots. There is no more cooling effect anywhere on the plant than a breeze outfoors would create.

The water saturation is a lot less than submerging in water or watering normally would be. It just "moisturizes" the medium nicely without drenching it. Its like a long, light drizzle rain versus a short heavy downpour. Drizzle does a better job.

If one wants to go that route, which is more labour intensive than normal watering is everyboy's decision.

Cheers apimom

News flash: after spending the whole summer outdoors under a tree and being watered with the water hose, ice cubes and by the sporadic summer downpours, the weather got cold enough to take the "girls" inside 10 days ago, being watered with ice cubes. I am glad to say that they are all alive and kicking, amazing rates of growth. Today I noticed that one of them is now starting a spike!! After this experience, I am following this schedule from now on!!! And my wife is happy with the cubes cause I don't make a mess of the sink!!
