Default liquid seaweed

Just a thought, but does liquid seaweed ever expire?

It will have a limited shelf life but I'm not sure how long. Tried emailing the producer? I made a fresh batch today as there's no point buying it when I have tons of the stuff at my feet.

At your feet? I kinda like it with sushi.

I don't see anything on the bottle. It does say its 100% organic and still smells like fish. I can't imagine it hurting the plant. Right?

I'm still going to use it. But just curious if there are any liquid seaweed with dates on them.

It should be fine for a couple of years yet and I doubt that orchids or any plant would object to organic supplements going off. I'm sure someone close to the sea could send you some seaweed to try making your own. all you need is seaweed, a container and water.

That was my thought as well, 'chids should be okay. As for the sea, I'm no where near a sea, nor do I know someonewho does. I'm close to Lake Ontario, but I don't think anything grows there (at least, i don't want to know what's there

Hey, would it work with dry seaweed?

Dry seaweed wouldn't work the same for orchids plus it reeks when it rots! The extract I make needs a top to the bottle and when you open it you know it! lol It really does stink. The bought extract should be fine tho'.

I just thought. If you want to try making your own you can buy some dried seaweed online. I'll look for some links for you.

Just found this...

One of the benefits of seaweed extract is the presence of cytokinins, or cytokinin-like compounds that stimulate root growth. Those do degrade over time, and are probably totally decomposed once the seaweed has been dried.

Don't know if it helps, but I keep mine refrigerated once I mix a batch up. I think l.s. is great stuff, I have MUCH better success using it than superthrive, (modern snake oil?), or any of the B1 root stimulators that are getting harder to find in this neck of the woods.

I add a B1 tablet to the seaweed extract and so far I've had nothing but success with all of my plants.
