Be careful of the fine oil-dry products in S/H. Small particles equals small spaces between them, allowing the surface tension of the water to hold droplets completely filling the voids - suffocating the roots.
I've grown in s/h for several years now and find that the bulk of my Catt collection does well in it. But there are one or two I will come across that do not do well and never adjust - I've learned to repot into conventional medium as opposed to the 'compost wait' (hoping they adapt and get to a point of no return).
