So with no new growth or leaves, does this mean this dendrobium is a gonner?
Becca...

in that thread I posted, you'll see that I cut away the canes that were giving me problems and repotted the others. The plant now thrives!
It even got a blue ribbon at our last show!

Sue...I did read that, sorry you had to point it out to me again...lol. I have been contemplating cutting off the cane on the first orchid that has a cane turning brown, but it is still hard/firm feeling so I had some reservation doing it. So if the replacement plant looses all of it's leaves like the old one has, and it does not have new growth, should I just give it some time or is it just doomed?

Here's a thought Becca. If you're thinking about tossing it anyway try this first. Cut off the cane. Then cut the cane into sections that have a couple of nodes each. Find a shallow dish (I've used a frisbee) and fill with damp peat moss or sphag. Lay the cuttings in the dish and gently push them down into the medium. Put the dish in a ziploc and let it go for 2-3 weeks. You may be able to entice a few Keiki out of the cuttings.

Hi Terri! It's to late! I cut the cane off last night before going to bed since when I started to feel it again i found the bottom part was soft when the last time I checked it, it was firm! When I cut it, it was so soft it kinda just bent in half from my sheers that I use only for my orchids (yes I sterilize them) instead of cutting in half.....ooops! Also some kinda of a liquid squirted everywhere....hope this was okay. I put some cinnamom on the open wound and put it to bed, althougth I am not sure that cutting it where I did was enough, but I was trying not to have to take it out of its pot. Also, what do nodes look like on dendrobiums?

Nodes are where the leaves were or are. If it was that squishy it probably wouldn't have worked anyway. Oh well.
