find that Orchid Society and join them...

They are your orchid friends. You can give them a piece of your favorite plants. Then when you kill them you can go get some of it back
You got the society pneumonic wrong...it's Orchid AE (Orchid Addiction Enablers)

RJ if you are growing C. aclandia and C. violacea well you are far past "beginner" with this species

Your plants look awesome!
Can't wait to see the blooms open up

PS. I trim the nasty off my catts all the time...I have not yet "submitted"

Default thanks you!!

The acliandae been around some time . It seems to bloom every other growth. This one didnt bloom but I found a new nubbin while I was pickin at him. You can all critique these further in the future and see how long they can stay nice looking ..and the sheaths...I dont get too much hopes up on sheaths anymore. Could be or could not be. I just cant tell unless they start to get fat. Just being there is pretty entertaining all the same.. I mean Im watchin an orchid in my spare time already

but I do hope they show some bloomage soon real soon Im getting worried..So worried I might need a few more to make sure I get one to bloom

Very nice and it looks like you are going to be having lots of flowers soon. I like your pictures and your jar world seems very effective for you.

the C violacea one is blooming for 1st time for me and I dont see that its bloomed before. I cant say if these or this one, is actually habitual at blooming on an immature pseudo bulb or not. Tried to check some others out to see if this was the case, but you know very few show shots of the plants themselves. I start to worry some about it ..I brought it in to keep it out of the heat while its blooming out, (110 on the porch in the SHade) BUT,the plant really dislikes the cool nights in my home more than the heat outside. Going to have to warm it up some after it blooms to perk the leaves up ......EEEEK \

thanks you all I grow this stuff just to show it to ya and if you werent looking at it some it wouldn be as much fun growing em for myself ya know

to answer the Question
Quote:
Cattleya violacea is the odd man out. This species doesn't really have any affinities with any other Brazilian Bifoliates. It sort of resembles aclandiae in that the flowers emerge as soon as the leaves start to spread on the new growth.
Yes indeed the violacea starts to bloom as soon as new leaves start to spread. Also found out why the leaves are weak looking. The plant doesnt make new roots with the new growth and the bloom. Its running on last years root system, these plants keep many better than I on edge. It doesnt start to make new roots until after it blooms. A reason why re-potting this one at the wrong time or any plant for that matter of fact can kill them.

Default catts

The contrast between Catt foliage and the exquisite flowers may be a profound Zen existential statement to us all, you have only to find it...

I want some Catts again....sigh... Thanks for sharing.
