Good links for orchid info?
Hi folks,
Until OB becomes the hub of the orchid universe, I was hoping you might have some good links for general orchid info. I'm a total newbie and looking for info on the different species and types.
thanks for the help

Re: Good links for orchid info?
I think it would be a good idea in general to compile a good list of orchid lins and have it available for everyone to use.

I have block of time that I can try to kill. Hopefully I can have something up or otherwise a few links by the weekend. On a side note however, for those of us that struggle with impatience, I'd say that any Barnes and Noble should have a few items coming out soon that I enjoyed. There should also be a few orchid societies around and about - will have information on that as well soon.

A good source for general orchid info would probably be through a local society. I'm a member of NWOS (Northwest Orchid Society) and we put out a monthly newsletter. There is usually some good info on orchid care in the newsletter, usually talking about what to do with specific types of orchids for that month and what to think about culture wise for the next, ie. watering, fertilizing ect. Check it out, and try some of the back issues for more info.

If you don't mind the potential threat of it being a commercial ste (less than about 15% of the material is commercial), I have assembled a bunch of stuff under the "Free Information" link on my home page (URL below).

I have a reasonable number of li nks on the oscov website www.oscov.asn.au as well as a large number of articles (almost 90 currently). I find the Orchid Mall a good starting point.

I don't mind at all. All the commercial stuff can go in its category. If you guys could enter any links that you find interesting into the "LINKS" page it would be very much appreciated and I'm sure helpful for everyone.
I imagined that the user managed links page could be a very useful resource. Trouble with links pages in general is that they're not updated and not comprehensive. If we all maintain the OB links pages, we can make the best orchid links page out there. OK, I just realized that I said links about 50 times :S hehe
Don't be shy, if you know good/useful URLs please enter them in their categories. If you feel that there should be another category, please PM me or post in the feedback.

Where is a "Links" page? I didn't see it in the index.

Good Links/Good Books
Regarding a book, the easiest book is the cheapest book by Ortho, 'All About Orchids'. This paperback book (thin) is endorsed by the American Orchid Society. You can probally find it under Amazon.com for a little over $10.00US Currency. When I first started working at a large, established orchid store, 16 years ago, I was instructed to read thes book every evening for a week and i would know all that I needed to know. NO LIE!!!!!!
Go to AOS.org.....or pick up my website, www.orchidexpressandleasing.com and you will find my recommended links on the 'About Us' page. You will also find our favorite link, this one, OrchidBoard by Marty.
