Help: Black Specks on Catt Bud
Default Help: Black Specks on Catt Bud

Help.....I was so excited that my catt produced a bud under my culture. But as it got bigger, I noticed black specks on the bud and under magnification I could see they are black circles with a tan spot insight. I don't know if it's an insect or a fungus or something else. I've posted a photo below, but it's hard to see the black circles and tan specks inside without a magnifying glass. Should I spray it with Safer insect killing soap that contains potassium salts of fatty acids? Should I also spray with the Safer fungicide that contains sulfur? Should I do something else? Please help.

Doesn't look like anything terrible to worry about. Idk, why not just wait it out a bit to see if the condition worsens. If the bud falls off, at least you still have the plant to bloom the next upcoming blooming season.

I honestly think there's nothing to worry about though.

Hi Philip,

Thanks for looking. I've replaced the photo with one that is in better focus and you can see the circles. I've been watching it a couple of days and it is definitely spreading.

Thanks

That's my thought. Misting could do that. Funny how some buds don't mind and others totally react to it. It may look OK on the other side of the petal too if it isn't too deep.

It's being grown indoors on a windowsill with supplemental light and a little fan. I try to aim at roots when I mist and could have easily sprayed the bud. Temps are usually 70s to high 80s on the summer and humidity around 50%. Thanks for taking a look. I hope it's just the stray misting.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm very happy to hear it's just the misting.

Default Happy Ending

The happy ending to the black spot trauma is this bud opened and spots didn't even show through the sepals. Thanks for your advice to wait for bud to open. I posted a link to the bloom photo on the Catt Forum under Lc Caitlin Joan and couldn't resist posting it here too. It's my first time culturing a Catt bloom and I feel like a proud grandparent
