Thank you, Claire--really good to know this! I'm a newbie when it comes to orchids, but learning. I'm tempted to branch out from phals and I'll have to give these places you've listed a good check-over.
Finally got my orchids from Olympic...boy, am I happy with them! The Catt walkeriana is way bigger than I had expected for the price, and the Den kingianum has multiple growths!!! My husband and I just put in a new window, so hopefully there will be space for all the new toys this winter, haha.
Congrats, Claire! You've got some beauties there; I'd been looking at the Cattleya walkeriana. Gorgeous 4" fragrant white blooms. It's on my future's list.
I've got 3 new plants on the way and I'm now trying to figure out where they'll go. I may have to go with a new window box like you did.
Claire if you've not grown rupicolous Laelias before you might want to read this. How to Grow Rupicolous Laelias Pay particular attention to the section on media. I think you may have problems with moss.
Hi all, is there any one who can tell me what to do with empty Cat sheaths, the plants came with them but they have produced nothing. I can tell that they are empty,do they EVER fill up(if that is the right term)? If not then do I just clip them off? Have grown other orchids for a long time but these are my first Cats. Thanks for any help you can give.
Yeah, I second Bob's advice. One of my Catts has sheaths right now, but I know from past experience that it always blooms mid-November...sometimes it takes sheaths even longer before buds form. DON"T cut them off!
