hi i bought a mini orchid and it bloomed for a few months and now the flowers all falling off and the the stem is half brown and half green bottom green is it becouse its not getting enough light cos it happend too my 1st orchid last year and now its stem is growing back now still waiting for it to be ready to bloom . And back to the mini orchid i think its the same as the other the way its going down hill i feed it once a week with a lidquid with water mixed with it but i dont put a pencil in to check to see if it needs watering can u please help me out please with this problem and enclosed is some pictures of the 2 orchids hope it is clear for you to see look forward to your advise thanks lisa

Lisa - what you have are 2 Phalaenopsis plants. When they are done flowering it is normal for the spike to turn brown and die, when it does, cut it off close to the plant. From what I can see (your photos are blurry) your plants appear to be doing ok. They want to be watered so that water is flowing out of the bottom of the pot and then again as they are approaching just slightly damp. They don't want to ever go completely bone dry. I agree. The plants look like they are doing fine and it's normal for old spikes to die back.

Just a clarification on watering. Water until water is flowing out the bottom, but make sure it's fully drained afterwards. Don't leave them standing in water.

hi thanks for your feed back i have cut the brown part off now and now i water and making sure they drained aswell i did leave a bit of water in the dish after it drained but now i empty it now and my first phals is looking loads better the stem growing buds now thanks again and i did buy the orchids from asda thanks lisa
