Smile root or spike- you be the judge

Ahhh, the infamous question, are these roots or spikes? Either way growth is growth!
These are 2 different plants. As you can tell, one is already in bloom, the shoot in question is coming out almost next to the spike. One the greener one, the growth is coming out between the 2 leaves. You will have to excuse my roots, one was a rescue and the other was potted with a blooming plant in aussie gold, and was immediately repotted and separated.

Maybe it's too early to tell?
