So I was looking for a different orchid than what I have (6 phals, 2 dens, 1 oncidium and 1 catt in ICU) I went to my favourite nursery. Tell me how I did:
I came home with a CPTRA sydney smith green monkey - I got it for 1/2 price because it was not in bloom. I figured for $19.98 it was a steal.
I also bought a phal lioulin sweet. So cute and she smells nice.
Any advice on how to care for them? I figure the mini phal I would treat as my other phals. Oncidium likes the same space as phals?
Your mini phal you would treat just like any other phal in your current collection.
However, I am unsure what you mean by Oncidium likes the same space as your phals. Generally speaking, oncidiums like the same conditions as phal's however they do like a quite a bit more light than phal's. That is not to say they like direct light, but they do like brighter filtered light and afternoon shade.
Perhaps if you could clarify that last statement about the same space, we can answer you a bit better.
Just looked it up and it definitely has Odontoglossum in there.
From what I've read, they also have Baptistonia and Oncidium in there as well.
If this intergeneric has Baptistonia and Odontoglossum in its heritage, then it most likely has a much better tolerance for cooler conditions than an ordinary Oncidium.
Hi paul, oops, sorry if I wasn't clear. I leave the oncidium by my east window, same as my phals. It gets morning sun until about 1pm and then the sun turns. It's not indirect light as my mini blinds are pulled up. The orchids I have now seem to like it as they are thriving.
