Well most of the hardware stores here only offer's phalaenopsis. All of it are NoIDs.

Anyhow, I got those oncidiums from Safeway. The colmanara's plant tag was really buried on the pot and the roots have engulfed it. So they weren't able to remove it. They are really good plants. That is its second blooming for me. It grows like a weed too. Got 2 more growths again. I may have to move it to a bigger pot.

I just purchased one of these "bagged" chids today from Lowes. Fairly decent size and with a foot long spike on it. I am wandering if I should repot now or wait until this spike does its thing before I repot. Any suggestions?

On another note, I have several of these bagged orchids, including a catleya red x red and a dendrobium spectabile...both are growing quite well.

I think big box stores in different regions get orchids from different growers. I see orchids Trader Joe's in Tucson and Orange County, California, that they never sell here in Phoenix.

My Lowe's in Northern Indiana rarely have orchids and when they do it's always NOID phals.

Wintergirl, I won't try and speak directly for all midwestern stores but I've never seen anything more than NoID phals in the big box stores in Michigan though this spring I actually saw some Vandas in big clear plastic tubes at Meijer.

Cojack, if it were my orchid I wouldn't repot it until after it blooms. Take stock of the media its in and be cautious with your watering. If you do feel the need to repot it before the spike is gone I would at least allow the plant to acclimate to your environment first; re-potting and a new environment could be too much stress all at once but notice I say 'could', some have better luck than others.

Also, I know this thread is several years old but I was interested to note the dark color of Eggshells' pbulbs. I have Colmanara Masai Red and its pbulbs aren't that dark but they do have a reddish brown tint to them.
