cym ?
i posted a question several days ago and was hoping someone could answer it for me. This is my first yr with cyms. I re-potted both of them after they lost their flowers, removing all the dead roots. I had on one lots of new growing tips until I moved it thinking it was too hot on my backdeck (south). Well where i moved it to had a rainstorm and it filed up it's pot over night. It was in a pot with no drainage hole I didn't realize the decorative outside pot was like that until too late. So I did a repot and found alot of it's roots had rotted so I removed them. So long story short my question is, when i was doing the original re-pot it was growing 2 new pbulbs---they rotted. Now it starting growing a new 1 again and it feels soft like it's starting to rot as well. What am i doing wrong or how do i stop the new growth going south like this. I have put it in alot smaller pot and am watering almost everyday with the heat. I also am using a high nit fert with several clear waterings between. It is back on my rear deck with full sun in the am. Please help, thanks a bunch!

I would suspect the lack of drainage in the pot has caused the rot - hopefully it will rebound now that it has good drainage
If there are some good roots left, and some unrotted growth, I think chances are good for it

I am no expert on cyms, but it sounds like it is being kept too wet? Mine are outside also and have a lot of new growth. I feel the medium every day and if it feels dry I do water, if not I give it another day. Just a thought!

"Mattryan", I think you already know what the cause of the problem was, you stated it already as part of the description.
On that note...
If all the roots rotted out and the pseudobulbs are rotting out, I think you may have to try again.

Thanks all for the posts. I was doing fine until I put the pot into another decorative pot that didn't have a drainge hole...learnt to always check now Anyway I just looked at both of your posts cym ladye and I unpotted it. No idea what black rot looks like, but here's what my cym looks like. Some new growing tips not many but the 3 pbulbs that I started with are still very firm. Is there hope for it? Thanks all for your help

I think it's most likely save-able - has a pretty fair amount of roots, and some good growth left - I've saved orchids in much worse condition, and cyms are pretty hardy. Guess it depends on you - might be some time before it could blooms

Your description painted an entirely different picture from the actual picture! Definitely looks savable from the photo. I cannot see if there is a leafless bulb on the back of the plant. If there is, remove the roots but leave the bulb on for strength. Then just pot up the division by putting about an inch of mix in the bottom and then twisting the plant into the pot. Saves breaking that way and also precludes the roots touching the bottom of the pot. Do not soak or water prior to potting and hold off the water for a few days after potting. Top off plant with slow release fertilizer. Keep in shade for a few weeks and then resume regular water schedule.

Thanks again whiterabbit and cym ladye. I did repot it yesterday and put some cinamon on area where the rotted new pbulb was and haven't watered will just spritz for a few days. I have no leafless bulbs at all just 3 bulbs. Hopefully it is on it's way to recovery! Not blooming for a bit is my least concern, I really liked these flowers and will be happy when it is healthy. Thankyou again for all your help
