Default Crazy roots

So I just picked this up for nine bucks at a smiths. It has quite a few new growths (not shown) but I was just curious about these roots. I have another similar to this even thought I can't remember the name :/ but I was wondering if I can go ahead and clip these down? They look dead to me but I am not sure. I am taking it to get repotted next weekend because it looks like its going to explode out of its pot, lol. Any suggestions? I wan't it to live!

(sorry for such washed out pics, I was too anxious to wait for the right light)

I wouldn't clip the roots, they are providing water and nourishment to your plant even though they aren't buried into the medium. Just wait until you repot it then get them buried into your fresh mix.
