Mystery Purple Thing?!? Female
Default Mystery Purple Thing?!?

Today I repotted some of my orchids from PrimeAgra to a medium bark mix, since I lost 2 phals to root rot. I still have a cymbidium potted in s/h since the roots are still firm, white with green tips. While I was repotting my dendrobium miyakei into bark, I noticed this purple bump on a cane and have no clue what it is! I am hoping it's a new cane but really hope it's not a baby slug. I didn't poke it and haven't seen it move. Can someone shed some light on what this is and perhaps explain why it's purple?!?

Not an expert but it looks like new growth. It looks like the new growth I get on my epidindrums. Start off like little purple bulges and then they grow to form leaves.

Thanks for the input! I'm very pleased to see the new growth considering the root damage it had. I hope that it will make a great recovery now that it's in bark mix.
