What kind of orchid are you looking for ?
Bigleaf has a beautiful assortment of phals.
I have worked with Hausermann Orchids and have been very satisfied. (Phals, again)
Baldan's Orchids is another good outfit. (I obtained 2 phal equistris from them)
I bought a number of nice catts from Carmela's orchids at an Orchid Show and they do have a website.
I am sure there are many others that can give you kudos on their favorites.

We all have our favorites and some of our favorites are others nightmares, we have all been there. I have always had great purchases, healthy, tender packing and every once in a while a sweet surprise.

One of the OB member 'littlefrog' has great orchids (check out the paph's) and also shows which orchids are frog friendly.

Oakhill is one of the OB vendors for one of our Project Contest. They have great looking orchids and packing to perfection.

Parkside has also a wide variety of orcids with healthy arrivals.

We can only suggest our best vendors and hoping they do you well.

There is also: The Santa Barbara Orchid Estate Santa Barbara Orchid Estate Home Page or Cal Orchid Cal Orchid: The Living Bouquet. (both in California, but I'm not biased really )
Both locations sell wonderful orchids, but you will need to call them to actually place the order, however you can view their selections online.

Don't forget: Orchids limited (www.orchidweb.com). pricey, but high quality.

Hoosier Orchids (www.hoosierorchid.com).

Andy's Orchids (Andy's Orchids - Orchids Species - Orchids - Species Specialist - Orchids on a stick)

Exotic Orchids of Maui (Exotic Orchids of Maui - Home)

I second the votes for Oak Hill and littlefrog farms.

There's a lot of good vendors out there--if you go to American Orchid Society they have a vendor listing that is their list of supposedly reputable vendors. take it with a grain of salt, but there are some good ones on there.

Gytana,

Analyze your normal, easy-to-maintain growing conditions in terms of light levels, temperatures, and humidity, considering the day/night and seasonal variations as well.

Next, think about how much you wish to "mess with" your plants. Are you a poker/prodder/daily inspector and frequent waterer, or are you more likely to sit back and let it grow. Again, consider the majority of the year when the plant is not in-bloom, and not just when the flowers are on it, which of course, will keep you glued to it.

Then, after you have done that, you can start looking for a plant that will "take to" those conditions well.

Do your best to avoid the "WOW! I really like that one!" approach to plant selection.

You have fun choosing. I have paths, cats, onc, a zygo, that are all fragrant. All I know is that if you order 1 you might as well order 2 or 3. Soon your Dinner Menu will be the same as mine.
