mount question

I am curious....when an orchid has completely grown around the mount it is on, what is usually best to do when it no longer has room to grow....leave it alone? I don't have this problem now, but I was just curious.

Me too. I have several that are that way and have chosen to leave them rather than disturb them. Anyone have words of widom?

Not sure what you mean by room to grow? I have plants growing on, off, and around many mounts. Room is not necessarily an issue. keep the roots misted/watered daily and it should be fine. Now if taking a division is what you are getting at.............take a portion of the plant that is not attached to the mount, or the portion that is growing off the mount, if you know what I mean.

It would also help to know what kind of chid we are talking about.............................

I've read in several places that you should just attach current mount to a larger mount & not disturb anything...
Haven't tried it yet, but sounded logical...

Well I don't really have a particular kind of orchid....I was just asking as a general question. By room, I mean if an orchid's roots grows completely around and all over the mount and covers it and there is no more mount for the orchid to grow on...

It's not a great idea to try to remove roots that are planted happily on a mount...doing as Rhonda suggests is the way to go. Attach the existing mount to a new, larger mount and let it go

Oh ok got it, trust me where there's a will there's a way, your orchids will simply grow right off the mount hanging in mid air if they want to!
