Adjusting to outdoor light?
Default Adjusting to outdoor light?

Hi All,

I am moving my oncidiums, a Zgd, cymbidium and tolumnia outdoors for the summer. They get pretty strong sunlight through early afternoon, and I am wondering what the best way is to prevent them from getting too much too soon. I measured the FC at noonish, and they were at about 9000 (HIGH!) The cymbidium has been outside for a few weeks without problems, but I jsut moved the others out today. Any suggestions to preventing a burn incident?

I move all of my chids outside for the summer as well as the cactus and succulents. I start in late April with the Catts, Cymbidium, cactus and succulents under a 70% shade cloth placed over my deck. They stay there until 1st week in May when I move the Cymbidium to a sunny location on the driveway and the Catts go in the mobile greenhouse. The cactus and succulents are also in the most sun I can find for the summer. The Bulbophyllum hang out over my deck and the other chids, Paphs, Phrags and Phals stay in the greenhouse. The point is to move things slowly to adapt to outdoor living!
