Well, it can't hurt. Maybe it will provide extra humidity for the pot (the parts directly over the dish), but these do nothing for ambient humidity. Also be careful not to leave so much water in the dish that it gets sucked up by the pot and rots the roots.
Things that work better
Crowding plants together (though not a good idea if you are worried about disease)
electronic humidifiers/foggers
spraying your plants at least once a day (but be careful not to overly wet the plant which would cause rot).
