Temperature of water.Cool

I think the water you pour your orchids are fairly cool or ice cool. according your weather. During summer times
also. What is the temperature of water required by orchids. You mist ice cool water isn't it?

I water and mist from a tank of RO water, and I keep it heated to 70°F, and noticed that a lot of my plants consistently grow better than they did when I "shocked" them with cool water - particularly phals and vandaceous types.

As far misting is concerned, there will be some evaporative cooling of the droplets, but how much depends on the humidity level. Generally, I doubt it's enough to be an issue. Besides, misting is intended to raise the humidity, not wet the plants.

I agree with Ray, my water is always the same temperature as my greenhouse. There is no value in shocking your plants with either hot or cold water. They do seem to appreciate water that is close to the temperature of their surroundings.

thanks for replying me. And you spray heated water .How come that? .We can't pour heated water plant will die here.. I thought you pour cool water there. By accident can you put hot water ..Normally tap water is cooler I suppose.

Thats good to know. I was watering some of my orchids with coldish water from the tap. Now I know better. Thanks!
The ones I keep at home and in my vivariums get watered with bottled water that is at room temperature, no wonder they do better.

I water with city water....with as many of orchids I have it would get to expensive to by bottled water to water weekly with! For a while I used a thermometer I had on hand that I previously used for developing solutions for film (I washed it really well) to keep the temperature of the tap water around 70 degrees. After a while I started to figure out what the temp was without the thermometer. I hate using the city water because of the chlorine, I guess I could let the water sit out overnight, but then it becomes hard to add the fertalizer in to get it mixed well. Perhaps I should use something other then a watering can? I saw a neat sprayer on the orchidarium website that could be used for watering. Hmmm.....

Just for clarification to our non-US friends, we are NOT talking 70 degrees celcius. It is 70 degrees farenheit. :grin:

Becca I use a 2 gallon pump sprayer. It works well, kept out at room temp easy to add fertilizer and mix. I also use this to raise the humidity/misting over the plants. I merely add tap only at any time to fill the pebble reservoir to help balance the humidity level.
