Default Does My Brassia Need a New Pot?

You tell me, folks. It's growing out the side of the pot and has roots circling the top of the pot, but I have no idea if this is fine or not.

Stats:

Bought a few months ago from great greenhouse, had one spike with 11 flowers, now has another spike with 7 buds. It has some black spots on the leaves that the greenhouse people told me were from too much humidity. They have not gotten worse and I don't mind them. I can see an old spike that has been cut off in one of the leaves, but I don't know how much of this is old or new growth.

I took these photos today after I watered it. Repot in a bigger pot?

It doesn't look to me as it needs a bigger pot. Brassia's like to be tight anyways.
One thing though .... Check the media further down. Repot if indeed the media has broken down too much.
Great lookin' plant

Oh, thank you!

Well, I did buy one of those orchid pots that has the slits in the side. It's the same size as the plastic pot that it is in now. I could just move it into that pot with fresh medium?

Great catch Blondie... It looks to happy to make a change. These particular genre get honory when repotted, not affordable if in spike. But to me it appears to have another season to go. Let the roots be nosy, drawing to the enviroment...

You can see that roots are in active growth looking for a place to anchor themselves outside the pot. Newest pseudobulbs are those in picture 1. If you don't mind sacrificing the flower, repot now.

I would leave it alone for now , there is a lot of new growth on it that is where the spikes will show up once they are mature . The pot does not look to small . Gin

I'd leave it alone too. Mine is tighter in it's pot and blooming right now. A Shooting Star "Black gold".

I agree with the above posters. Your plant is definitely NOT over growing the pot. I have had several that hung the pseudobulbs over the edge of the pot and bloomed like crazy. That's probably extreme however they thrive in this. Have you ever noticed they tend to send up shoots higher in the air then the last one? Think they might like to grow mounted.

I have an onc. (I thought) that I bought last fall/winter. It had no tag.Now I'm thinking maybe it is Brassia. It looked very much like that as well as I remember. Healthy plant but has not bloomed again. Thought maybe it was just a winter bloomer, now I see yours in bloom? What kind of culture are you giving it if you don't mind my asking. I want flowers darn it! Thanks, Gladys
