Micro-epiphite for aerial part of aquarium?
Default Micro-epiphite for aerial part of aquarium?

Hello all,
my low-end brackish aquarium will have an aerial part of about 10-15 cm height, with the top of artificial roots (see pic) popping out of water. Could you suggest some sturdy epiphites which I could attach to the top of those roots? Air temperature around 26-28 C, high humidity, hardly room for a fan...

First thought is to the Tillandsias, perhaps even the Usneoides, but I'm sure here I'll find the right suggestion!

I also have a Schoenorchis fragrans, and an Oncidium Pusillum, who are struggling in room atmosphere, so I'm looking forward to give them some decent humidity.

THANKS!

Hej Bob,
COOL statement on epiphites/orchids! I agree! :-)

Two (standard?) T5 aquarium lights will be immediately ABOVE: gotta optimize the available space..... (total height of the tank is only 50 cm...)

Will the artificial wood touch the water? If so, by how much?

Well,
then I got the right person...!
More details: SG 1.005 (hopefully nobody will complain, it's not the right forum for this...), just sand and those roots, but I need some aerial microplants to give some "forest" for an archerfish to shoot. Plus, I love epiphites (all of them!).
Lights: I don't know, it's not specified in the tank specs. I'll see what comes with the aquarium, and if it fits all the inhabitants, I wouldn't mind changing them...

The roots are some 40 cm tall, and will be submerged except the top 10-15 cm

Oh, yes, VERY hood-ed, there'll be a (perforated) plexiglas sheet to protect the lights from the archer's spitting. The tank comes with a passive "constant air flow" ventilation system (it's an Eheim)
