Default maxillaria blooms and concerns

Hello,
The maxillaria that I bought from the show put up nice blooms, but I noticed that parts of the roots and medium that used to be dark green - now is becoming black and doesn't look healthy. Is it dying? It seems like the middle part of moss is black too.
Should I repot it? Will it grow in the bark, I don't have fresh sphagnum here?
Please help me to keep it alive.
Thank you

I personally cannot grow anything in moss so would suggest you take it out and repot in bark or other media you are comfortable with. You need to check the roots anyway and get rid of any dead and mushy ones. I would also spray the roots with Listerine or some other bactericide/fungicide.

Zoi2 pretty much nailed it.

Repot and remove as much of the Sphagnum as possible. And yes this species will do phine on bark. It can have some Sphagnum mixed in the bark though.

Thank you. I will repot it and check the roots.
I have found pressed coconut husk chips bricks in local tools store(???) yesterday. It is soaking now and I am going to wash it thoroughly. On the package it states "#1 for orchid growers". Would this media be good for maxillaria?
What else can you grow in coconut husk chips, it labeled as medium size?
Thanks again for the info.

Coconut husk chips might work -- Max. tenuifolia likes to stay damp for a bit before drying out, and CHC might do the trick!

There's a super awesome thread about this plant on OB... you kind of have to dig through it for information 'cause it's so long. The thread's here: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...0-project.html
