Potinara Island Girl-Is bud blast beginning?
Last week I received a bloom size Potinara Island Girl (Little Toshie `Gold Country`, AM/AOS x Blc. Goldenzelle `High Noon`). I'm new to these orchids and see tiny green rice-shaped growth at the bottom of several leaves. My concern is that they also seem to have a cream colored dry spot at the top of the green. Do this rice shaped things normally grow into buds in the right conditions? Is the dried cream spot the beginning of bud blast or is that what potinaras do?

Could you post a picture? It would really help to determine what you are referring to.

Photo: Potinara Island Girl-Begining Bud Blast?
Here's a photo of the green with cream grain of rice size growth in Potinara leaf. In a happy plant, does this normally grow into a bloom? Is the dry cream area the beginning of bud blast or just what potinaras do? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

More clarification on photo.
The rice grain shaped growth I am referring to is at the bottom of the leaf in the photo and almost right in the center of the photo.

It looks like a growth that matured but did not produce a spike. Catts do that sometimes if conditions or time of year aren't right.

that is what happens when leaves grow but do not produce blooms....if it were going to bloom, there would be a sheath there that develops at the same time the leaf develops...your plant may not be old enuf yet...give it time....gl

Good luck with your new plant and I'm sure it will bloom for you when it is mature.

Thanks Silken. With everyone's great advice along the way, I've got a chance at a bloom. Since it's from a seedling, it will be fun to see if it comes out extremely attractive or just "so-so". I guess "so-so" is the norm and if I like it, that's what counts.

Well, I've only seen one photo of this hybrid but it is gorgeous. And it has two very beautiful parents, so the chances of a beauty are pretty good I would think. It's one I would like to have!
