How to repot this orchid?
A couple of months ago I got this Max. tenuifolia (the "coconut-smelling orchid") at a San Diego orchid show. Great specimen and it filled our living room with wonderful fragrance for weeks. Now, with flowers gone, it got retired to my GH and is growing like crazy. My question is how to repot it - as the pictures show, this species basically sends out new pseudobulbs from the long vertical shoots in all directions. In the meantime, the bottom of the plant is in a pot with, at this point a very small amount of bark, charcoal and lava pebbles combo.
So what to do? The new bulbs send out roots that have nowhere to go, and the bottom looks pathetic, feeding the whole rest of the plant. Is this orchid best grown on a slab?
Thanks!
